The Last Day of Kindergarten 21-22

Our last day of kindergarten was truly bittersweet filled with lots of love and laughter (and a few tears from Mrs. Steele).  We enjoyed singing and dancing along to our Good Morning songs for the final time this school year.  We read the book, Miss Bindergarten Celebrates the Last Day of Kindergarten by Joseph Slate and each student was given a penny and a Hershey Kiss as were the students in the book (a penny to wish them luck and a kiss that they will be missed).  We attended our closing ceremony outside where each grade level was presented with words of wisdom from students in the grade above.  The ceremony was closed with a clap out for Mrs. Hudson, a 5th grade teacher who is retiring, followed by the 5th grade students who will be moving on to middle school next year.

When we returned to class, we concluded our time together by reading the book, Oh the Places You'll Go by Dr. Seuss.  Afterwards, students completed a reflection by writing about their favorite memory or what they were most proud of from their kindergarten year along with what mountain they will move in their lives or what change they will make in the world or what they will do in the future.  It was incredibly inspirational to listen as they shared their memories and future plans with one another!  Although they were a bit reluctant to leave at the end of the morning as they jokingly held on to my legs and tried to hide in their coat cubbies, I can confidently and proudly say that this group of kindergartners are more than ready for first grade and have such bright futures ahead of them!
