Our last day of kindergarten was truly bittersweet filled with lots of love and laughter (and a few tears from Mrs. Steele). We read the book, Oh the Places You'll Go by Dr. Seuss and the students were all given a special pencil to remind them that they are off to great places in their lives! We also attended our closing day ceremony in the gym where each grade level was presented with words of wisdom from students in the grade above. The ceremony was closed with a clap out for Mr. Beagle, our recess supervisor who is retiring, followed by the 5th grade students who will be moving on to middle school next year.
When we returned to class, we concluded our time together by reading the book, Miss Bindergarten Celebrates the Last Day of Kindergarten by Joseph Slate and each student was given a penny and a Hershey Kiss just as the students in the book received (a penny to wish them luck and a kiss that they will be missed). Although I miss them all so much already, I will forever cherish the special memories we made together and I can confidently and proudly say that they are more than ready for first grade and have such bright futures ahead of them!
