Options-Based Emergency Response Procedures Training

Today, the students at Glengary were introduced to our new enhanced lockdown or options-based emergency response procedures.  An introductory presentation was shared that included:

  • An overview of all emergency drills that schools practice (fire, tornado, bus evacuations)
  • A discussion about dangerous situations at school
  • An introduction to ALICE principles (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate)
  • An emphasis on being prepared and not scared through reading the book, I'm Not Scared, I'm Prepared! by Julia Cook
  • Prioritizing the importance of listening to teacher/adult directions, especially during emergency situations
The students also had the opportunity to meet Deputy Krafft, one of the police liaison officers that partners with Walled Lake Schools to help them to understand that the police officers that they see at school are working to help keep us safe.  They also had the opportunity to visit the rally spot located at the back of the playground where students would reunite in the event of an emergency situation.

Families will continue to be informed of ongoing safety discussions and future practices where students will continue to understand and implement the ALICE principles to respond to hypothetical situations.
