Options-Based Emergency Response Procedures (ALICE)

As part of our districtwide school safety training procedures, the students were introduced to our options-based emergency response procedures.  Over the course of several weeks, students participated in various activities including:

  • An overview of all emergency drills that schools practice (fire, tornado, bus evacuations)
  • A discussion about dangerous situations at school
  • An introduction to ALICE principles (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate)
  • An emphasis on being prepared and not scared through reading the book, I'm Not Scared, I'm Prepared! by Julia Cook
  • Prioritizing the importance of listening to teacher/adult directions, especially during emergency situations
  • Playing the Sheep & Wolf game in PE class
  • Partaking in two situational awareness activities to help them to be more aware of their surroundings
  • Learning about the location of the various exits throughout our school building
  • Visiting the rally spot located at the back of the playground where the students would reunite in the event of an emergency evacuation
Families will continue to be informed of ongoing safety discussions and future practices through the Glengary Gazette where students will continue to understand and implement the ALICE principles to respond to hypothetical situations.

Thank you, Mrs. Morse!

We are all so grateful to 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Morse who so generously donated a Bluey dollhouse and accessories to our class that her own children outgrew. The JK students are super excited to put this new addition to good use during choice time!

We Love Our 5th Grade Helpers!

We are so incredibly grateful for our 5th grade helpers, Evan and Eliana, who help us to get safely to where we need to be at dismissal each day!

Little Boy Blue

To continue our exploration of nursery rhymes in order to help us to develop the skill to identify words that rhyme, the students enjoyed participating in small group station rotations. They also practiced matching and tracing the uppercase letters of the alphabet.

Go Team

As part of the Positivity Project, we learned about the character strength of "Teamwork" this week.  To put this into practice the students collaborated on teams to build puzzles together.

Teamwork on the Farm

As part of our Positivity Project, we had so much fun learning about the character strength of "teamwork" by working together to create a mural of a farm.  Together we decided on the animal each student would draw to add to our farm and one student drew the farmer.  We hope you enjoy the mural of the farm we created to accomplish our goal!

Directed Draw of Chester the Racoon

Since reading The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn the first week of school, we have enjoyed hearing additional stories about Chester the racoon including A Kiss Goodbye and Chester the Racoon and the Big Bad Bully. As a fun way to help us continue to build our listening and following directions skills, we did a directed draw in class to create Chester the racoon.

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall...

To help us build our ability to hear rhyming words, we have begun to learn about nursery rhymes in class. The students have really enjoyed reading and reciting Humpty Dumpty through many fun activities throughout the week. They especially enjoyed creating their very own Humpty Dumpties to display in our classroom!
