We are Scientists!

We discussed what science is and read the book, What is Science? by Rebecca Kai Dotlich.  Then, we drew and labeled ourselves as a scientist.  Afterwards, we examined rocks closely as scientists do and we drew and labeled our rocks.

The Flying School Bus

Today, we read the book, The Flying School Bus by Seymour Reit.  At the end of the story, we discovered that the bus flew up into the sky.  After reading the story, we discussed if the story could really happen and created a chart to share our beliefs.  We then discussed the difference between fiction (pretend/make-believe) stories and nonfiction (real/factual) stories and learned that the book, The Flying School Bus is actually a fiction story.  Later in the day, the students were led in a following directions activity where they were expected to listen and observe directions step-by-step to draw a matching school bus.  We will continue to work on the important skill of listening, watching, and following directions throughout the school year.  🚌
