Meeting An Actual Author!!!

On December 22nd, we had the privilege of meeting the author, Donna Neumann, who shared her book, I Don't Celebrate Anything! with us over zoom.  Mrs. Neumann is also a kindergarten teacher who shared her experiences of feeling left out in school when her classmates would share their excitement about holidays that her family did not celebrate.  The students used the character strength of perspective to help them to understand how other's might feel in different circumstances.

Word School

To celebrate all we have learned as Word Scientists, the students invited a favorite stuffed animal from home to Word School where they taught their stuffed students about all of their snap words in a variety of ways.

How Are We the Same? How Are We Different?

Students spent time in breakout rooms with a partner interviewing one another to discover various ways they were the same and different from their partner.  Results were shared collectively with the class to further the discussion.  Afterwards, students listened to the story, We're Different, We're the Same and enjoyed the song, We Are So Much Alike to celebrate the idea that despite our differences, we are very much alike!
