The Polar Express Party

To celebrate the upcoming holiday break, we had so much fun reading the book, The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg.  For a special surprise, the students all received a bell and a golden ticket just as the boy did in the story!  In the afternoon, we watched The Polar Express movie together while enjoying a special treat of "cold" chocolate with holiday cookies!  We then compared the similarities and differences between the book and the movie!

Hide-and-Seek with Hibernating Animals

For the first official day of winter, we created a book from our Weekly Reader titled, Go to Bed, Sleepyhead where we learned about animals that hibernate in the wintertime.  The students practiced using some of their reading superpowers including pointer power, sound power, picture power, snap word power, reread power, and pattern power to read their books.  To conclude our lesson, the students enjoyed playing the game, "Find the Hibernators" where they found animals that were hibernating in a winter scene.

Spirit Week Day 5 - Snooze Day

To help raise funds for the Foundation for Excellence and have some fun during the holiday season, Glengary hosted 5 Spirit Days for the final 5 days of school leading up to the holiday break where students paid $1 for each day they participated.  For Snooze Day, the students were invited to wear their pajamas to school.  What a fun and comfy, cozy day we had together!

Hooray for Pajama Day!

Building Hexagons

In math, the students had fun working with a partner to combine pattern blocks in different ways to discover how to make hexagons.  To conclude the lesson, we analyzed the various ways that all groups used to create hexagons using very shapes discussing what we noticed during our explorations with our partners.
