Halloween Celebration

Despite being a half day of school, we had so much fun from the beginning to the end of the day!  From singing with Mr. Burr during music class, to playing a haunted house game with Mr. Vogt during gym class, to having a special Halloween snack from Mrs. Steele while enjoying a Halloween episode of Word World, to using our character strength of creativity to turn a pumpkin into a jack-o'-lantern with our pattern block shapes, to coloring and decorating a haunted house picture, we had a wonderful time celebrating Halloween together at school!  👻

Pick a Pumpkin Game

As part of our Let's Find Out Weekly Reader pumpkin issue, the students had so much fun playing the "Pick a Pumpkin" game where they practiced identifying upper and lowercase letters of the alphabet.

Readers Use More and More Words that Are Exactly the Same in Their Old Favorites

In reading workshop, students shared our classroom "old favorite storybooks" with a partner practicing using more and more exact words from the stories while sounding just like the characters in the books.

Reality About Rectangles

In math, the students enjoyed examining, describing, and comparing a variety of rectangles.  They learned the specific characteristics of rectangles including that a square is a special kind of rectangle.  Afterwards, they searched through the rectangles that they collected to find actual rectangles and squares to add to our class collage.

We are Word Scientists!

Today, we began our new phonics unit where the students became official, "Word Scientists."  Knowing the importance of scientists needing tools, Mabel, our phonics mascot, had a special surprise for all of the students in our class - goggles, a magnifying glass, and official word scientist badges.  We used these tools to help us study our alphabet charts closely to discover what we notice about the letters, sounds, and pictures.
