Field Trip to the Commerce Twp. Library

As another way to celebrate March is Reading month and our love of reading, ALL students at Glengary Elementary were able to take a field trip to visit the Commerce Twp. Library.  Kindergartners were scheduled to go on the morning of March 23rd.  While we were there, one of the librarians talked to us about the library and read us many funny books!  Then, we were able to have a behind-the-scenes tour where we saw where the librarians work and were also able to meet LARS, the machine that sorts the books that are returned to the library.  We ended our tour in the Children's Section where we were able to explore the different learning stations and those students who brought their library cards were able to check out a book. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Mrs. Ifraimov (Gabriel's mom) and Mrs. Jindo (Annabelle's mom) for being such wonderful chaperones for this field trip!  A fun and memorable time was had by all!

We couldn't wait to share our books with our friends! 💗📗📘📕

Finding the Number that Makes 10 When Added to a Given Number

In math, students had so much fun playing the Hiding Bears game in partnerships to practice discovering various ways to make 10 from a given number.  Our school therapy dog, Romeo, enjoyed visiting each team to cheer on their hard work and efforts.  Students continued their independent practice by playing the Penny Plate game on Connect Ed to reinforce this concept.

Celebrating World Down Syndrome Day

On Tuesday, March 21st, we celebrated World Down Syndrome Day.  This Day has been been celebrated globally since 2012 for the purpose of raising awareness, promoting inclusion and celebrating diversity.  The date being the 21st of the 3rd month is to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down Syndrome.  We honored this special day at Glengary by following the worldwide tradition of wearing mismatched socks since chromosomes resemble socks to raise awareness and show our support for the Down Syndrome community.

Leprechauns on the Loose!

Top of the morning!  The leprechauns were on the loose in our classroom today and boy oh boy did they make a mess!  When we returned from gym class, we were all totally surprised to find our chairs tipped over and cupboard doors wide open!  The biggest and best surprise of all was the extra special green cookies that the leprechauns left for us!  💚☘💚

💚 Happy St. Patrick's Day! 💚
