Self Regulation

To help students to be able to regulate their emotions and behavior, we have been learning about the Zones of Regulation as part of a schoolwide initiative.  Students have been learning to identify the zone they are in and strategies to help them return to the green zone when they feel dysregulated.  We have a calming corner in our classroom, called "Mellow with Mabel" filled with a plethora of resources (breathing techniques, yoga poses, books about feelings, a notebook to draw/write about their feelings, sensory tools, etc.) that students can access on an as needed basis.  We have also been learning to identify how big a problem truly is and what expected reactions might be to specific problems to help students to evaluate if their reactions fit the size of their problems that arise in their daily lives.
