Brown Bear Literacy Stations/Small Groups

The learning target of our literacy stations centered around the book, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Bill Martin, Jr. The goal of the stations was to use letters, pictures, and sounds to help the students to create, understand, and retell stories. In Story Workshop with Mrs. Steele, the students listened to the nonfiction story/song, Bear Facts by Norma L. Genter used the information from the story and the provided supplies to respond to the provocation to create a story about their bear. At another station, the students colored the pictures from the Brown Bear book, cut them out, and glued them in the proper sequence. At the next station, the students traced the uppercase and lowercase letters and then used tweezers to hunt through the forest sensory bin to find and match uppercase and lowercase letters to the corresponding letter mats. At the final station, the students sorted words that rhymed with animal characters from the Brown Bear book and then played a rhyming memory game together.
