Comparing Representations

In math, students worked independently to create matching representations for a given number between 5 and 10.  Then, they worked with partners who were given the same number to discuss and analyze the different representations they created for the same number.  Finally, as a class, we compared and analyzed different representations for various numbers.

Using Our "Partner Power" to Strengthen Our "Pointer Power"

In reading workshop, students enjoyed using "partner power" to help them grow their "pointer power" even stronger!  Partners took turns reading and pointing while being sure to focus on making their pointing match what they were reading.

Using Our "Reread Power" To Fix Up Our Reading

In reading workshop, the students were excited to learn the Super Reader song.  They were especially excited to try out their rereading super power while they continued to practice using their pointer power to touch each word as they were reading.

Obstacle Course Positions

In math, students had lots of fun using positional concepts to follow directions and complete an obstacle course in class!

Using Our "Pointer Power" to Read Longer Words

In phonics, the students learned that readers don't let longer words slow them down.  They were so excited to receive magic finger lights from Mabel to help them to practice using their "pointer power" while remembering to be on the look-our for the long words that might try to trick them into pointing too many times for one single word.  They paid close attention to when their pointer power started to lose strength when the words didn't match, and they practiced going back and trying again while remembering that every word-even the longer ones-only get one tap.

A Special Visit From Romeo

This morning, we were so very fortunate to have a special visit from Romeo, our school therapy dog and his handler, Mrs. Locke, who is a first grade teacher here at Glengary.  The students all did a wonderful job remembering to speak in calm, soft voices as Romeo walked among them.  We look forward to helping Romeo continue to acclimate to our Glengary school community in the coming months!
